Nigeria: Twenty thousand Primary School teachers who failed exams meant for pupils to be sacked

... they failed  assessments usually given to six - year - old pupils.

As if to underscore  the rot in the country's educational sector , about 20,000 Primary school teachers in Nigeria's  Kaduna State,  have failed  exams meant for their pupils. The teachers failed the exams  they prepare six - year- old  pupils for.

According to authorities in  State, the  teachers will be dismissed for  failing to pass  tests meant for their pupils and qualified teachers employed to replace them.

Meanwhile, the number of teachers to be sacked for incompetence in the State may be higher as Secondary School teachers are expected to take tests meant for their students in the coming weeks.

Governor of the State Nasir  El- Rufai told representatives of the World Bank in a meeting in his office that while   all 33,000 primary school teachers in Kaduna State took the test, 21,780 teachers, or two-thirds of the total number , failed to score 75% or higher on assessments usually given to six -year - old pupils.
He told his guests that the hiring of teachers in the past was fraught with cronyism and that the State government  intends to employ  young and qualified primary school teachers to check the falling standard of education.
