Cameroonians streaming into Nigeria to seek refuge amid secession crisis

While Nigerians  from Northern Nigeria stream into Cameroon due to Boko Haram insurgency , Cameroonians are also  streaming into Southern Nigeria as  secession calls from the English Speaking Cameroonians  spark  off  a steadily deteriorating crisis in Nigeria's neighboring country

So far about  300 Cameroonians have been  registered as refugees after entering the Nigeria  through the Nfum border of Cross River State in South/South Nigeria.

The head of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Mohammed Babandede told  officials of  Cross River State government on Monday that the service is  ready to ensure the safety of the refugees and will  respect  refugees  human rights but wont allow the refugees to negatively affect Nigeria's  security situation.
"We will treat them with dignity. The Cameroonian government has done the same for us during the Boko Haram crisis," he said.

According to him ,the number of refugees streaming into Nigeria due to the crisis is expected to rise to  40,000  as estimated by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.

The North West and South West regions of Cameroon are facing repression from the Central government since 2016  after mass protests against marginalization. There has since been a  violent clampdown of subsequent  protests in the English-speaking regions leaving  several people dead, many injured. Hundreds of protesters have also been arrested and remain in jail.
