Man jailed for stealing N500 from dead accident victim




  A 25-year-old security guard, Musa Isah, has been sentenced to three months imprisonment for  stealing from the dead.
 A Magistrates’ Court in Minna, capital city of Nigeria's Niger State on Tuesday sentenced Musa Isah  to three months imprisonment for stealing N500 from the corpse of  an accident victim.
Isah was arraigned on one count charge of theft, contrary to Section 287 of Nigeria's  Penal Code.
 Police Prosecutor, Insp. Gunduma Ibrahim, told court that the offence on July 15 at about 4 p.m.
Musa Isah had gone  to the scene of a fatal accident  in Minna under the guise of rescuing the victims.
However,  instead of assisting the accident victims, he  searched the lifeless body of one of the victims and removed N500 from the victim. He was  arrested on the spot and taken to a nearby police station for interrogation and subsequent  prosecution.
When the charge was read to him, Musa pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.
The prosecutor urged the court to sentence Isah, based on his plea in line with Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The Magistrate, Mrs Mariam Kings, sentenced Isah to three months imprisonment with an option of a  N20, 000 fine.
