Liberia Presidency: Ex-Warlord, Ex-Footballer , Model battle to replace Sirleaf.



As the tenure of incumbent President of Liberia draws to  a close  after more than a decade in power as  Africa's first female elected head of state, over twenty Liberians have indicated the desire to take over from  President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
Presidential elections are billed to take place in the West African Country in October.

Among those vying to replace Mrs. Sirleaf  are incumbent Vice-President Joseph Boakai who will run on the ticket of the ruling Unity Party,  Liberia's most popular international footballer  George Weah, who lost to Mrs. Sirleaf in  2005, a former Warlord Prince Johnson and  a Model turned Charity worker - MacDella Cooper, who is the only female contestant .

NEC Chairman Jerome Korkoya  who disclosed this to journalists also said the Electoral  body also certified 986 candidates standing for the 73-member House of Representatives.
