Zimbabwe: Military will "step in" if political purge continues - Army chief

Zimbabwe's  Military  has warned those responsible for the on going "purging" in country's ruling Zanu-PF party to stop, or the risk a military intervention.

This is coming  a week after President Robert Mugabe sacked his deputy Emmerson Mnangagwa in a move seen as paving the way for his wife to succeed him.
Mnangagwa, once seen as a successor to President Mugabe, has since fled into exile

The country's Army chief General Constantino Chiwenga stated this in  a news conference with another 90 senior army officers in Harare ..

In the rare press conference at  the Army headquarters, General Chiwenga said "The current purging, which is clearly targeting members of the party with a liberation background, must stop forthwith."
"We must remind those behind the current treacherous shenanigans that when it comes to matters of protecting our revolution, the military will not hesitate to step in."

General Chiwenga said  the constant bickering among politicians in the Country has led to the absence of any meaningful development in the country in  the past five years with  Zimbabwe struggling with cash shortages and rising commodity prices.

The press conference was blacked -out  in Zimbabwe by all  state-linked media.
The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation did not cover the press conference while The Herald newspaper took down a report on the press conference which it had earlier  posted on its website
